To get you pumped and ready to take on the day’s adventure our guides can take you on a refreshing outing at the St Herman’s Blue Hole National Park situated on the outskirts of Belmopan City. Known to be among the most beautiful natural areas in the country, with over 500 acres in size there are several activities to do and things to see. You can choose to explore any of the two underground cave systems located on-site. One of them offers the chance to hike into the cave’s amazing interior and then tube back down to the entrance on inflated tubes.
On-site, you can also locate a large sapphire sinkhole situated in the middle of the grounds, affectionately referred to as the inland Blue Hole. This freezing, natural body of water, measuring 25 feet in debt, is said to be the work of a collapsed underwater cave system. The site is a major attraction for tourists and even locals who visit and enjoy a cool refreshing swim on a hot day.
Of course, a trip to Southern Belize would not be completed without a trip to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in the Stann Creek District. This site is known across the globe for being the only jaguar preserve in the world and is also used to protect the forest, fauna, and watershed, spanning over 150 square miles. This site will provide you with several sightings of birds and animals of all species, and maybe even a face-to-face encounter with an elusive jaguar.
Southern Belize is known for its role in the passing down of generational secrets of traditional chocolate making among Maya families. Up to the present day, those traditional practices have survived the age of time and are passed on to visitors through tours such as the Belize Maya Chocolate Tour. This tour will commence with learning how the cocoa beans are extracted from the pods, fermented, dried, and then prepared into delicious chocolate bars. Participants will not only be engaged in the process from start to finish but will be able to sample their finished products.
