A trip to the Belize Mayan Chocolate Farm, will have you looking at your next favorite chocolate bars in a different light, right before we up the tempo and spark your adrenaline with a stopover at Bocawina National Park, to try out their ziplining and rappelling packages. Sounds fun yet? well pack your bags with extra bug sprays, towels, and a change of clothing, and let’s get going.
The stop at St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park is usually the first on everyone’s itinerary of things to do on a hot day. The National Park which is home to two Mayan ceremonial cave systems is also home to the country’s inland Blue Hole. The natural sinkhole, with its cool and refreshing tortoise-colored waters, is a major swimming destination for those looking to escape the scorching heat. Escape from the crowd with a trip inside any of the cave systems and witness first-hand where the Mayans once performed ceremonial sacrifices to the Gods.
Ever heard of Belize’s rich biodiversity, the trip to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, which is the only jaguar preserve in the world will give you that insight. Home to hundreds of endangered jaguars, the reserve is littered with birds and animals of all species, nature trails, and waterfalls.
The Mayan Chocolate Tour, which is offered in Maya Center Village, comprises a first-hand demonstration of how traditional chocolate bars were made. The secrets have been passed down between Mayan ancestors, to their children, for generations and include a demonstration of how the beans are manually extracted from the pods, fermented, dried, and processed into chocolate bars.
The last stop on our tour will take you to the Mayflower Bocawina National Park where you will not only get the chance to choose from hiking or birding but also get a chance to zipline high above the pristine rainforest canopy down below. Need to end off the day with another exhilarating experience then you are more than welcome to challenge yourself by rappelling down any of the reserve’s three waterfalls. Whatever your choice might be we are sure that it is the perfect way to end your day.
