All international flights land at the Philip Goldson international airport in Belize City and most international cruise lines dock in Belize City as well. Belize’s two domestic air carriers, Maya Island Air and Tropic Air, both have multiple daily flights between Dangriga and Belize City. Although this is the fastest way to travel to Dangriga (approximately 20 minutes flying time), this is the most expensive method of traveling between the two cities.
Bus
Belize has a comprehensive network of affordable public buses. Travel time is approximately three and a half hours. Locally known as “chicken buses,” public transportation can be difficult if you have a lot of luggage. Buses make frequent stops and crowding can be an issue.
By Sea
Although Dangriga and Belize City are both on the coast, there are no regular ferry or water taxi services between the two cities. It may be possible to hire a charter service to travel to Dangriga from Belize City by sea.
Car
Whether via shuttle or rental vehicle, it’s easy to get to Dangriga from Belize City. From Belize City, take the Western Highway (officially the George Price Highway) towards Belmopan before turning south on the Hummingbird Highway that leads directly into the town of Dangriga. Taxis can be hired to take you anywhere in the country, but the journey from Belize City to Dangriga is usually prohibitively expensive unless you’re prepared to share the fare with a group.
